Before Stonewall
June is of course Pride month and so we wanted to find a podcast episode that could lead to a great discussion about Pride and how best to show up as allies for our LGBTQIA+ friends, family, and co-workers.
We decided on this great episode from Throughline (an excellent series BTW that we’ve listened to in the past here in the Ally Podcast Club). It digs into the history of Stonewall and tells super illuminating stories that many of us had not heard before. And we strongly believe that one way to be a better ally is to better understand the history and challenges that others have gone through - so it seemed to fit super well from that respect.
Suggested discussion questions (if you need something to start the conversation):
Were you familiar with some of the history talked about in today’s episode? Were you taught this in school?
If some of the history was new to you, what where some of your initial reactions?
It’s always a great question to ask about progress… we have certainly come a long way since then, but have we come far enough?
