Supporting Return to Work after Maternity Leave

Supporting Return to Work after Maternity Leave

We’re excited to introduce a new podcast series once again this month - this time the fabulous Coaching for Leaders series with Dave Stachowiak.

This particular episode is an interview with Danna Greenberg who is the Walter H. Carpenter Professor of Organizational Behavior at Babson College. What we liked about this episode is that Danna and Dave talk about what society implies about how returning to work after having a baby is supposed to look like… and break those topics down in a way that felt like it could truly help women and those around them support a better transition back to the workplace.

Suggested discussion questions (if you need something to start the conversation):

  • Did you know more than 70% of mothers in the US return to work after having children?

  • Given it’s a majority, does your workplace offer parental leave benefits? Do they offer specific support when returning to work?

  • Parenting experiences and family structures vary so much these days - any thoughts on how we can make more room and provide more support for diverse families with young children?

  • Have you experience or observed well meaning behavior that didn’t feel great in the moment? How would you like to have seen the situation handled differently?
