The Case For Defunding The Police

At work the entire day of Juneteenth was dedicated to learning and so in our division we setup a full day of content including a special edition of the podcast club. We actually hit our highest attendance ever thanks to the invitation going out to the entire division. It was a big day emotionally - but so glad we did it.

Given everything going on - we selected this episode on defunding the police to help people understand what activists mean when they call for defunding the police and some of the challenges that lie in achieving that goal.

Suggested discussion questions (if you need something to start the conversation):

  • What do you see as the biggest challenges in this movement?

  • Is “defunding the police” too extreme of a tagline or not extreme enough?

  • Is this a local issue or a federal issue? Or some combination of the two?
