Code Switch: Why the Coronavirus is Hitting Black Communities Hardest

COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting several communities, but especially black communities. At least here in Washington state, early May was roughly two months into the stay at home orders and uncertainty around COVID-19 was at a very high point. As tough as COVID-19 has been for everyone, for me at least part of what it was highlighting was the privilege many of us have been afforded and the disparity between those that have and those that don’t. This podcast did a great job presenting both data and emotions around this important topic.

Suggested discussion questions (if you need something to start the conversation):

  • Did COVID-19 make you more aware of any privilege in your life? Or lack of privilege?

  • The episode really highlights the impact of systemic racism. Agree or disagree?

  • What do you think we should be doing as a society to help these impacted communities?
