Guilty of all Charges

Guilty of All Charges - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

The New York Times The Daily Podcast covers the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. Mr. Chauvin is found guilty of all charges.

It’s been eleven months since the death of George Floyd and the #blacklivesmatter movement becoming a hot topic across the entire nation. Tragically George Floyds death was not the first at the hands of police, nor the last. I, like many of you have been anxiously awaiting the outcome of this trial. Would Derek Chauvin be found guilty, or would he be allowed to walk?

In this episode The Daily walks us through the verdict from the jury and the reaction by the community in Minneapolis as well as George Floyds family.

Suggested discussion questions (if you need something to start the conversation):

  • Could the outcome of this trial have gone either way? Before the outcome was announced how were you feeling about which way it would go? What do you think might have happened if Mr. Chauvin had been found not guilty?

  • How do you think the outcome of this trial impacts the future of policing?

  • As an ally, does the outcome of this trial change the way you might think about how you would act/react if you were witness to an act of police brutality?
